Dumpling Bar in Roma is the Best Chinese Food in Italy

Chinese Dim-Sum Makers

We have been around the world for decades eating a lot a different kind of food. Along our Roma's press trip we had the chance to try something absolutely new for Italy. We are talking about the "Dumpling Bar" of the Italian Chef Gianni Catani. Well the experience was totally unexpected and full of good surprises. What we were most impressed was the goodness and the amazing variety that was presented in front of us. In other words this was the best dim sum tasting we ever had in our career. Could you believe it? It was way better then any other you can find even in San Francisco's Chinatown.

Chef Gianni Catani in his Restaurant

We were there last September and we did not programmed to go until the very end, luckily we did because we would have really loose a lot. Everything was so delicious and fresh made at the moment. Service was very good too.

They started taking their five home made sauces including Soy Sauce (Soy, Ginger, Vinegar, Sesam Oil) Bitter-Sweet Sauce (Tomato, Vinegar,Water, Sugar) Beijing Sauce(Housin Sauce, Peanuts Butter, EVO) Red Curry Sauce (Red Curry, Sesame Oil) Hot Sauce (Chili Sauce, Sesame Oil, Ginger). The pairing with the dishes was awesome. We also ordered their delicious tea selection but if you like you can have a craft beer from a very nice brewery which name is "Oxiana".

The great thing of this place is about the variety of their menu which change weekly introducing original and traditional Chinese recipes that you will never find in other part of Italy. Moreover the dough is made fresh every hour with the simple use of water and flour. Our favorites were the dim-sum filled with broth. Though the filling can be made with pork, lamb, scallions, bell peppers, Shiitake mushrooms, chicken, bamboo and sauerkrauts.

Gianni Catani has joined this dream project, now a reality, with his Chinese mentor Jing Shan. Together they intend to let the Italian public understand the authentic Chinese food. It's not a surprise that the travelers from any other nation appreciate so much this true concept. In the menu you can find not only dumplings but also many other recipes.

Our final score for the "Dumpling Bar" is a 20/20 and we strongly recommend it when you are in Rome. Indeed you will not find another location as this one in the capitol neither in the rest of Italy. Gianni Catani toke the Chinese cooking tradition to another level in Italy and even worldwide, that level makes the difference between the real gourmet and the ordinary.

Stéphane Andrieux, at Chateau de la Treyne, is Chef of the Year 2018

At the end of this 2018, as usual, our readers together with our staff voted the "Chef of the Year" and this time the title goes to the Michelin starred chef "Stéphane Andrieux" who is in charge of the kitchen of Chateau de la Treyne, located on the Dordogne river in France. You can find the full article, about this wonderful place, published here on May 2018.

Stéphanie Gombert together with Stéphane Andrieux have been fantastic. Her for the impeccable hospitality and him for the gourmet. We have briefly listed here why the voters and our staff have selected it. First of all the best main dish which was: "Quercy" roasted saddle of lamb with Kaffir lime, baby crispy and melting tartlet with young garden peas, olive powder. The dish was paired with a superb Malbec of "Chateau Lagrezette" 2008.

Then the breakfast, surely the best along the whole France press trip, served in the magnificent ambiance of the Chateau with an excellent view of the river.

Finally for the impeccable welcome in the suite where local incredible products were served directly on the main table of our beautiful room.

Chateau de la Treyne, a Relais Chateaux, is the best address you can stay, at this time, on the banks of Dordogne river and is really complete in everything you might expect from it.

Between the Lot and Dordogne Rivers

Saint-Cirq-Lapopie a small, quaint and perched village on the cliffs facing the Lot river in France is the place where you will find the "La Table du Producteur" spot.

We would define it as the heaven of the "Foie Gras" because they have a great variety of it and they produce it themselves also hosting guests at their tasting tables.

The products are local and natural with an excellent price considering their quality.

La Table du Producteur by Michel Monteil is a must stop visit in this beautiful small village. It's not only a boutique gourmand but also a food cultural place were to acknowledge you about the true "terroir products" of this unique part of France.

Another wonderful locations is a bit north west at about less then one hour from it and its name is Loubressac.
It's also very well known because, like the previous one, it's another of "one of the most beautiful and charming villages of France".

Loubressac has a stunning view over the Dordogne river valley. When we were there there was a fantastic T-storm and the sky became orange and yellow.

We finally decided to eat and sleep at "Logis Hotel Lou Cantou" located in the center of the village and we had a local meal made with fresh products, meanwhile we were admiring the amazing colors over the Dordogne valley.
