Chateau de la Treyne the Excellence of Dordogne

Dordogne river is one of the most beautiful place to visit in France. Worldwide famous for its gourmet, castles, peaceful countryside and of course history. Are you looking for the excellence and the best romantic place in this region? Then our choice is "Chateau de la Treyne", a castle affiliated to Relais Chateaux circuit. With its gorgeous overlook on the river, this magnificent luxury hotel has one of the best gourmet chef in the valley, impeccable service and amazing rooms.

We had the suite in the tower with an incredible sized bathroom and stunning view of the river. Also we have been welcome with a tray of local delicacy which included the famous Dordogne walnuts and a traditional liquor made with them.

A drink at sunset is a great moment for relaxing before a gourmet dinner in the ancient dining room of the castle. Where you will be pampered by the efficient and classy staff always present but not invasive.

The Michelin starred Chef Stéphane Andrieux introduced our gourmet dinner with a "Blue lobster salad with raw vegetables, citrus fruit dressing and home honey. The wine was a "Clos Triguedina" 2014 of Jean-Luc Baldés paired by a talented chef-sommelier Sasha Bluet.

The main course was a "Quercy" roasted saddle of lamb with Kaffir lime, baby crispy and melting tartlet with young garden peas, olive powder. The dish was paired with a superb Malbec of "Chateau Lagrezette" 2008.

The home made butter with three different flavors was something to die for! Ok it's not a dish in the menu but it is present on the table and it does not go unnoticed, because it's simply divine on the fresh baked varieties of breads offered.

The dinner ended with a little pre-dessert, followed right away by the main dessert which was made by vanilla, praline and lemon, and followed by little patisserie.

After dinner you can relax on the outdoor terrace or have a drink, from the luxury bar, in the cozy and warm historic rooms of the chateau.

In the morning we waked up in a magic atmosphere, immersed in the mist surrounding the Dordogne river at dawn. We were like in a fairy tail. The right time to have a walk in the beautiful French gardens just before breakfast.

Just the time to watch the enchanted places peacefully, before have a new awesome experience with the gourmet breakfast, served in dining room above the river.

After a full day staying at Chateau de la Treyne we assigned it a 20/20 score for the dining experience, the service and the ambiance worthy of a royal treatment. Chef Stéphane Andrieux and Stéphanie Gombert (owner with the husband Philippe) have been great hosts and together with their team they make the difference. Moreover, the ultimate service added is a courtesy BMW electric car for the guests of the Chateau. We definitely recommend this place.
