Castel Monastero Hidden Tuscan Gem in the Heart of Chianti Region

"Castel Monastero" a circa 23 km da Siena è un piccolo borgo medievale che risale all'undicesimo secolo,conosciuto in quel tempo come Monastero dell'Ombrone, E' uno splendido castello di charme che ha mantenuto intatta la sua bellezza preservandone la struttura architettonica,circondato dai vigneti del Chianti e dal tipico paesaggio collinare toscano con i suoi uliveti. "Castel Monastero" about  km 14 miles from Siena is a small medieval village dating back to the eleventh century, known in those days as Monastery dell' Ombrone. It's a beautiful charming castle that has preserved its beauty and its architectural structure, surrounded by the vineyards of Chianti and the typical Tuscan hills with its olive groves. Adjacent to the prestigious SPA it offers innovative treatments by the collaboration with Urban Retreats .

La proprietà è collegata al "Forte Village Resort in Sardegna", di cui ci siamo occupati nel mese di Giugno 2016 e nell' Agosto 2013. Molti dei trattamenti della SPA presenti nel resort sardo hanno avuto  la propria origine a Castel Monastero. Anche qui troviamo una piscina all' olio di Mare ovvero "ad altissima densità" di sale marino, praticamente a "gravità zero" Inoltre vi sono vari pacchetti disponibili come  il "Biokalco", il "Detox", lo Yoga nei boschi del Chianti, L' Anti-Age e il "Rituale Berbero di Coppia". Naturalmente anche l'immancabile "SPA Gourmet" per dimagrire pensata dallo Chef Gordon Ramsay

The property is connected to the "Forte Village Resort in Sardinia", which we have published in the month of June 2016 and in also in August 2013. Many of the SPA treatments in the Sardinian resort had its origin in Castel Monastero. Here too we find a swimming pool with "high density" of sea salt, virtually at "zero gravity" There are various packages available as the "Biokalco", the "Detox" Yoga in the Chianti woods, the "Anti-Age" and the "Ritual Berber Treatment for couples". The signature "SPA Gourmet" for weight loss by Chef Gordon Ramsay is a further plus.

Gordon Ramsay è uno chef di fama mondiale che ha ricevuto numerose stelle Michelin partecipando a vari progetti di ristorazione situati in diversi paesi. Qui ad esempio ha pensato e realizzato il ristorante "Contrada" e la "Cantina" del Castello utilizzata come scenario suggestivo per esperienze sia wine tasting che di gourmet.

Gordon Ramsay is a world-renowned chef who has received numerous Michelin stars participating in various Restaurants and projects located in different countries. Here, for example, has designed and built the restaurant "Contrada" and the huge "cellar" of the castle used as a charming ambiance for wine tasting experience is that gourmet.

Le  Mura duecentesche del ristorante sono state la cornice della nostra esperienza gourmet con l' executive chef Stylianos Sakalis che ci ha presentato il seguente menù degustazione: Un' originale "Amuse Bouche" seguita da una "Frisella alla Greca con Spuma di Feta" abbinata a "Müller Thurgau Köfererhof 2014". "Ravioli di Pecorino Liquido all' Aglione" abbinati ad una "Vernaccia di S. Gimignano Fiore Montenidoli 2014". "Tataki di Manzo, Rapa Rossa con Patate Novelle abbinato a "Pinot Nero di Nubi Castello di Farnetella 2007". Per Dessert "Torta di Carote con la Sua Granita, Yogurt e Zucchero alla Lavanda", abbinato a "Moscadello di Montalcino Capanna 2014"

The thirteenth walls of "La Cantina" (the cellar) surrounded us meanwhile we were having our gourmet dinner tasting made by executive chef "Stylianos Sakalis" who started with a quite original "Amuse Bouche" followed by a "Frisella alla Greca con Spuma di Feta" paired with "Müller Thurgau Köfererhof 2014". "Ravioli di Pecorino Liquido all' Aglione" paired with "Vernaccia di S. Gimignano Fiore Montenidoli 2014". "Tataki di Manzo, Rapa Rossa con Patate Novelle abbinato a "Pinot Nero di Nubi Castello di Farnetella 2007". La nostra valutazione complessiva del gourmet dinner e abbinamento dei vini è 20/20. Eccellente interpretazione della cucina mediterranea che integra elementi della tradizione Toscana con note innovative da parte dello chef e del sommelier. Ottimo anche il servizio bar lounge che serve interessanti drinks sapientemente preparati da personale qualificato.

Our overall assessment of the gourmet dinner and wine pairing is 20/20. Excellent interpretation of Mediterranean cuisine that combines elements of Tuscan tradition with innovative notes by the chef and sommelier. Also excellent bar service lounge serving interesting drinks expertly prepared by qualified personnel.

Ottime anche la colazione, impreziosita dalla selezione di tè della prestigiosa azienda Toscana "La Via del Té" da una vasta scelta di prodotti locali ed internazionali.

Also excellent breakfast, enriched by the tea selection of the prestigious Tuscan company "La Via del Té" (The Way of Tea) and a wide range of local and international products.

Le camere molto accoglienti, con bellissima vista sulla corte o sul bosco circostante, rispettano lo stile antico della struttura con tutte le comodità dell' era moderna. Anche in questo giudizio assegnamo il  punteggio di 20/20 sia per il pernottamento che per la SPA, che abbiamo presentato all' inizio della descrizione.

The very comfortable rooms, with beautiful views of the courtyard or the surrounding forest, meet the old style of the structure with all of the modern era amenities. Also in this other judgment we assign the 20/20 score for both overnight and the SPA, which we presented at beginning of the article.

Forte Village Resort World Leader for Wellness and Gourmet

"Forte Village Resort" Che dire!.....una perla all'interno di quel paradiso più grande che è il sud Sardegna. Il primo impatto lascia piacevolmente disorientati per la presenza di piante tropicali in armonia con la flora tipica locale unitamente alla presenza di due pappagalli brasiliani all'ingresso che volano e si posano a terra per niente infastiditi dalla presenza umana. Da pochissimo tempo la struttura è stata brillantemente restaurata con grande cura, con la magnificenza dovuta.

"Forte Village Resort" What can I say! ..... A pearl within that bigger paradise that is South Sardinia. The first impact leaves pleasantly bewildered by the presence of tropical plants in harmony with the typical local flora and the presence of two Brazilian parrots at the entrance flying and settle to the ground at all bothered by human presence. Very recently the property has been brilliantly restored with great care and renewed even to a higher standard then ever.

L'accoglienza è di livello elevato per la professionalità dello staff. La gentilezza e la cortesia sono presenti in tutti i dipendenti a diversi livelli.

The reception is at the highest level due to the professionalism of the staff. The kindness and courtesy are present in all employees at different ranks.

Il Forte offre ampie possibilità di scelta per il soggiorno: ville con piscina privata, suite, camere elegantemente arredate e con location diverse per il piacere dei propri ospiti.

La spiaggia è molto bella, lunga ed ampia, perfettamente attrezzata per ogni tipo di confort. L'acqua del mare varia dal cristallino al turchese ed è possibile effettuare escursioni in barca nelle vicine insenature. Molteplici le attività sportive: tennis, golf, calcio ed altre ancora situate in angoli diversi del resort, contribuiscono a rendere piacevole e vario il soggiorno.

The beach is beautiful, long and wide, perfectly equipped for any kind of comfort. Sea water varies from crystal clear to turquoise colors and you can have fun boat trips to nearby bays. Many sports activities are included: tennis, golf, football and others located in different corners of the resort, combine to make the vacation pleasant and varied.

The entertainment level is amazing, family oriented and has different possibilities for the adults but also for the little guests. The kids get different structures linked to each other and they are always  accompanied by a competent and dedicated personnel.

La talassoterapia con i suoi percorsi graduali in piscine da sogno, è quanto di meglio ci possiamo aspettare a livello mondiale. Inoltre la struttura si avvale della competenza del prof. Francesco Parra che, con uno speciale laser, da lui progettato per il trattamento  delle patologie che affliggono muscoli e tendini, vanta fra i suoi clienti, non solo i più grandi tennisti del mondo, ma anche personaggi pubblici. La sinergia del trattamento con la talassoterapia è efficace nelle patologie dolorose della colonna vertebrale a vari livelli.

Thalassotherapy with its gradual pools paths, is the best you can expect in the whole world. The structure also involves the expertise of PhD Francesco Parra, with a special laser, which he designed for the treatment of diseases affecting muscles and tendons. Among his customers, not only the greatest tennis players of the world, but also public figures. The synergy of treatment with thalasso therapy is effective in painful spinal disorders at various levels.

Per il piacere del palato ci sono ristoranti di alta qualità, sparsi all’ interno del resort; fronte mare, garden , bordo piscina che offrono piatti della cucina internazionale, mediterranea e fusion con prodotti locali accuratamente selezionati. Per un lunch veloce nella cornice di una fantastica piscina suddivisa in altre piscine c’è l’ "Hell's Kitchen" dello chef Carlo Cracco.

For the the palate pleasure, there are high quality restaurants, all located inside of the resort; waterfront, garden, poolside, the choice is limitless, offering also an international cuisine. Mediterranean gourmet si made only with carefully selected local products. For a quick lunch, in the setting of a new great updated pool there is "Hell's Kitchen" restaurant lead by Italian chef Carlo Cracco. Starred guys are quite present in this resort especially during specific period of the year. Some of them are resident chef,too.

Abbiamo degustato un ottimo sushi accompagnato dal “punta Rosa” della cantina “Santa Maria La Palma”. Si tratta di un Cannonau rosato vinificato in bianco. Per gusti più internazionali c'era un ottimo club sandwich insieme ad una  freschissima ed appetitosa insalata di quinoa con frutta esotica e per finire un delizioso dessert al cioccolato.

At the "Hell's Kitchen" we have tasted a great sushi paired with "Punta Rosa" wine by Sardinian cellar "Santa Maria La Palma." It is a Cannonau rosé wine vinified in white. For more international tastes there was an amazing club sandwich along with a fresh and appetizing quinoa salad mixed with exotic fruits. Finally a chocolate dessert.

Il “Beachcomber" sul fronte mare offre piatti mediterranei altrettanto sfiziosi come l’ antipasto cotto e crudo marinato, i mezzi paccheri all’ astice, il rombo in guazzetto e “dulcis in fundo” un’ originale sfera di cioccolato ripiena di cremoso alla vaniglia e fragole in salsa di cioccolato fondente.

The "Beachcomber" restaurant on the sea front offers equally delicious Mediterranean dishes such as "the cooked, the raw and the marinated" appetizer, the Mezzi Paccheri pasta  with spiny lobster, followed by a turbot stew and "last but not least" an original chocolate sphere filled with vanilla and strawberries cream in dark fondant chocolate sauce.

"Andrea Putzu" giovane sous chef promettente del ristorante "Le Dune" ha preparato un antipasto composto da crudo di dentice con germogli di campo ed emulsione catalana che ci ha davvero colpito.

Sous Chef "Andrea Putzu" leads the kitchen's brigade of the restaurant "Le Dune" beachside place with stunning view. He has prepared an appetizer consisting of raw snapper with sakura sprouts and Catalan emulsion that really astounded us.

Come primo piatto ha presentato una piccola millefoglie di carasau pendolino casizolu e fonduta di formaggio filante. A nostro avviso un felice inserimento di ingredienti della cucina sarda tradizionale fusi con grande raffinatezza.

As entree he presented a small puff pastry made with Carasau bread, "Pendolino" tomato, "Casizolu" and melting cheese millefeuille. We believe it's a happy inclusion of traditional Sardinian food ingredients fused with great sophistication.

Andrea ha poi continuato con un sandwich di branzino d'amo e patate, bottarga e croccante di gamberi un delizioso equilibrio di sapori e profumi di mare. Una tavolozza di colori degna di un pittore.

Andrea has continued with a wild caught sea bass sandwich and potatoes, bottarga (traditional Sardinian fish roe) and crunchy prawns. A delicious balance of flavors and sea aromas and a palette of colors worthy of a painter.

Per finire "Africa", una crema al caramello e mango, certamente un dessert di cui è difficile dimenticarsi.

To end our fantastic dinner there was "Africa", made with caramel and mango cream, certainly a dessert hard to forget.

Più informale ma non meno gustoso, ancora a bordo spiaggia, c’è  “Mozzarellandia" angolo dove si possono scegliere praticamente tutte le varietà di mozzarelle del bel paese.

More casual style, but no less tasty, still beachside, there is "Mozzarellandia" (Mozzarella land) a wide corner plaza where you can choose virtually all varieties of mozzarella present in Italy Ready cut in front of you with a great choice of tomato.

Tutto squisito con vari tipi di pomodori, nonchè pizze croccanti (noi abbiamo provato la “Sarda” con salsiccia e pecorino locali, stupende insalate, in un tripudio di colori e sapori.

All was incredibly delicious including the crispy pizzas (we tried the "Sarda" a local specialty made with Sardinian sausage and local pecorino cheese. You can have also wonderful salads, in a riot of colors and flavors with Italian delicatessen.

La nostra esperienza a Forte Village ha avuto un percorso di oltre diciotto anni con esperienze a distanza di tre - cinque anni l’ una dall’ altra, ma questa volta ha battuto ogni precedente esperienza. Purtroppo non ci è stato possibile ritornare al ristorante del cuoco Rocco Iannone, temporaneamente assente, al momento della nostra visita. Però conosciamo già il suo valore e siamo convinti che ci avrebbe stupiti ancora una volta con la sua geniale semplicità.

Our feedback at Forte Village Resort followed up for of over eighteen years with updates and experiences every two to five years interval. This time they really improved so much that we can say for sure this was the best one ever.  Unfortunately it was not possible to go back at the restaurant of chef Rocco Iannone, temporarily absent at the time of our visit. But we already know his great talent and we believe he would have surprised us once again with his ingenious simplicity.

This luxury all-inclusive extended stay hotel is 1.5 km from the Spiaggia di Santa Margherita di Pula and 13 km from Nora. 

The upscale rooms feature air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs, plus minibars, terraces and scenic views. The suites add living areas and whirlpool bathtubs; some include four-poster beds and hot tubs. Bungalow and villa accommodations are also available. Room service is available.

Free breakfast, meals and parking is included. There's a restaurant, a bar and beach access. There's a fitness center, an outdoor pool and a spa. Golf and a children's recreation area as well as laundry services is available.
